The insurance compensates loss of income and medical costs for treating an injury caused by an accident at work, in work-related conditions or during the trip between workplace and home.
Sore muscles or sinews caused by a working movement can also be compensated as an occupational accident. Certain injuries, defined in the Workers' Compensation Act, such as sores, inhalation of corrosives and others can also be compensated. Occupational disease caused by factors occuring at work is compensated.
Compensation for leisure time accidents follows the same compensation practices as the compensation for accidents at work with some limitations, defined in the Workers' Compensation Act and the terms of the insurance. Costs for medical care and the cost of institutional care due to leisure time accident are compensated according to the public rate in accordance with the Act concering client fees in the social- and healthcare. Costs exceeding this amount can be compensated according to agreement.
Compensation for leisure time accidents should at first be applied from Kela, the social insurance institution of Finland or from the workplace union. From the daily allowance the compensation paid according to the Finnish Health Insurance Act or by the workplace union is deducted. There is no deduction in daily allowance in the accident insurance for self-employed persons.
Compensation for traffic accidents at leisure time or other injury caused by traffic at leisure time should be applied for from the traffic insurance since these will not be compensated by the statutory accident insurance.
