A person is eligible for rehabilitation allowance if he or she has been injured as a result of an accident at work or an occupational disease that has weakened his or her working or functional capacity or earning potential.
Rehabilitation is granted, if the requirements are fulfilled, as a total measurement to promote the return to working life and to sustain and improve the funcional capacity.
Medical rehabilitation is given as non-institutional care or institutional care.
Vocational rehabilitation aiming at the working and functional capacity is accomplished by rehabilitation assessment, work try-out and training. Reasonable costs for rehabilitation and accident pension are compensated during the period of rehabilitation.
Rehabilitation due to a work accident is part of the statutory compensation and it is arranged in co-operation with The Insurance Rehabilitation Association, VKK.
Rehabilitation due to a leisure time accident should at first be applied from Kela, the social insurance institution of Finland, according to the Finnish Health Insurance Act.
